We spent a lovely morning in the Phoenix Park, I love it at this time of year when the grass on the 15 acres is left long for the fawning deer, it's hard to believe you're in the middle of a city when you're there :)

Less is More...
This took a little bit of brain power to try and work out the logistics of it, but I was happy with how it turned out.
The letters were cut from paper and the shot was taken with my 50mm lens and lit with a table lamp. Flypaper textures were added in postprocessing :)

like an open book...
I was really happy with this shot even though it was just a tester to see if the idea worked :) It was shot with my 50mm lens at f1.4.

Taken with my lovely lensbaby composer pro with sweet 35 optic, I liked the "stranger" out of focus it meant they stayed a little more strange :)

The Moon
The Moon, originally uploaded by CatMacBride.
The moon has a face like the clock in the hall;
She shines on thieves on the garden wall,
On streets and fields and harbour quays,
And birdies asleep in the forks of the trees.
The squalling cat and the squeaking mouse,
The howling dog by the door of the house,
The bat that lies in bed at noon,
All love to be out by the light of the moon.
But all of the things that belong to the day
Cuddle to sleep to be out of her way;
And flowers and children close their eyes
Till up in the morning the sun shall arise.
She shines on thieves on the garden wall,
On streets and fields and harbour quays,
And birdies asleep in the forks of the trees.
The squalling cat and the squeaking mouse,
The howling dog by the door of the house,
The bat that lies in bed at noon,
All love to be out by the light of the moon.
But all of the things that belong to the day
Cuddle to sleep to be out of her way;
And flowers and children close their eyes
Till up in the morning the sun shall arise.

Spent an hour or so on a beautiful sunny beach in Girvan on our drive down to the ferry. We paddled our feet and collected some of the tons of pottery that gets washed up for some strange reason....

Summer Sun...
Another wonderful day spent in the garden, I was lying in the grass and looked up and saw these wonderful poppies with the sun just peeping over the top, I tried a shot but decided I needed to go get my flash to get any detail on the flowers. So these were shot with my 17-40mm lens with off camera flash :)

Smooth sailing...
I do love the sea and very often when I take a photo of it I love to keep it as simple as possible just so you can soak in those beautiful sea greens.

getting to the point...
Every so often I try to choose a subject matter i've used before and photograph it in a different way. So I took out my pencils again tried laying out various patterns looking through the view finder all the time to check different compositions. When I found something I was happy with I set up my flash above right and fired it through an umbrella to diffuse the light nicely.

From the Fort...
Today was a typical June day in Dublin, with overcast clouds, the very occasional glimpse of sun and light showers of rain thrown in for good measure. We spent the afternoon at the fifteen acres and Magazine Fort in Phoenix park, Dublin. I loved the blooming hawthorn trees in the park, particularly the larger (often photographed) ones on the hills round the Magazine Fort.
I shot this image in RAW with my X100S and made two versions, one exposed for sky and one for landscape which I combined manually in Photoshop.

Fun with Paper :)
Sometimes it's just so nice to get back to basics and tonight while thinking up some new paper creations this simple set up of the word "paper" cut from paper sprung to mind.
I was going to light it from behind, but when I saw it on my over used, much loved, in need of replacement, cutting mat I thought it looked good just as it was. So as usual in the MacBride house at twenty to eleven on a Friday evening I was to be found standing on a kitchen chair taking a photograph :)
The image was lit from above left by a 580exii canon flash, through an umbrella, and it was shot using my 17-40mm lens. It's pretty much straight from camera with a slight adjustment in tones in PS.
